Biography
He waged a stubborn struggle with the Moors , having won from them a number of areas north of the Tagus River . The successes of Alfonso III contributed to the internal difficulties of the Cordoba emirate . In an effort to strengthen royal power, Alfonso III entered into a fierce struggle with the feudal aristocracy, led by his sons.
In 879, Alfonso III defeated Muslim troops at Polvoraria-Valdemora.
In 910 he was forced to abdicate in favor of the rebellious sons. The Kingdom of Asturias was divided between the children of Alfonso III: Garcia I went to Leon , Fruel II - actually to Asturias , and Ordogno II - to Galicia .
At the behest of Alfonso III or even he personally compiled a “ Chronicle ” describing the history of the Iberian Peninsula from King Wamba to the end of the reign of Ordogno I [2] .
