Biography
Adolf (Alexander Alexandrovich) Gedechen was born on February 22, 1805; received higher education at the University of Dorpat (1823-1828) [1] .
After passing the doctoral exam, he enlisted in the Russian Imperial Navy and during the Russo-Turkish War (1828–1829) served as a ship's doctor on the frigate Lovich [1] .
After the war, he moved to the civilian department and for a long time was a professor and director of the Midwives Institute at the Educational House of the City of St. Petersburg [1] .
Since 1848, Adolf Gedechen served as a doctor at the office of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Empire [1] .
For merits he was granted hereditary nobility [2] .
Adolf von Gedechen died on March 27, 1884 and was buried at the Smolensk Evangelical Cemetery in St. Petersburg [1] .
In addition to works on medical topics, he wrote the obituary of Alexander Ivanovich Gruber ( St. Petersburg , “Medical and Statistical News, 1847) [1] .
