Boxing competitions in the weight category over 91 kilograms among men at the 1996 Summer Olympics were held from July 20 to August 4 . 19 athletes from different countries took part. Competitions in the heavyweight category were overshadowed by the fact that the most likely gold candidate, according to Western observers, the winner of the 1992 Olympics , Cuban Roberto Balado , died in a traffic accident two years before the Olympics. His place in the Cuban Olympic team was taken by Alexis Rubalkaba , whom Balado had previously twice won in national competitions.
