A prince with such a name is mentioned only in P. N. Petrov 's The History of the Clans of the Russian Nobility. Rostislav was named the son of Prince Rogvolod Borisovich Polotsky .
In the Voskresensk chronicle there is a mention of the fact that the Lithuanian princes were descended from the Polotsk Rogvolodovich. According to the chronicle, after the expulsion of the Polotsk princes to Byzantium , after a while Vilnius residents invited to reign two sons of Rostislav Rogvolodovich - Mavkold and Deauville (Davyd), from whom the Lithuanian princes went. What kind of Rostislav Rogvolodovich is not known. According to A. B. Lakierra , “Russian Heraldry”, he was the son of the Polotsk prince Vseslav the Magician and was called Rostislav Vseslavich. However, this version is not maintained chronologically, and it is not known what facts Lakier refers to. It is known that almost all princes of Polotsk, including Rogvolod Borisovich, were sent to Byzantium with their families, so the version that Rostislav Rogvolodovich, mentioned in the Voskresensk chronicle, may be the son of Rogvolod Borisovich, has the right to exist. It corresponds to the chronological framework. In this case, he had two sons - Mavkold and Davil. However, this version is not supported by most historians.
