TV Series
The series does not tell the story of Duncan in chronological order; instead, the main sequence of events is reproduced as memories accompanying the events of the present, which corresponds to the years during which six seasons of the series were shot, that is, 1992-1998.
In the eleventh episode of The Family Tree, Duncan's father, MacLeod clan chieftain Ian MacLeod, states that Duncan's newborn was a foundling, with whom his wife Mary decided to replace their stillborn son. The same episode tells how Duncan, mortally wounded in battle, dies in front of his father and soon resurrects, fully healed. Because his family believes that he has become a demon, he is expelled from the clan. The Chronicle of Observers of this period refers to 1622, a time of a dispute with the Campbell clan.
In the episode "The Gathering," Duncan and Connor MacLeods tell Tess how Connor, who underwent a similar test in 1536, found Duncan in 1625 and told him of his immortality, making him his apprentice.
Many retrospective references to Duncan’s life story tell of his many adventures over four centuries, including traveling to Renaissance France, Italy (1x22: The Hunters) and China (1x03: The Denied Path). Duncan witnessed the French Revolution, participated in the First (1x15: “Tomorrow We Die”) and the Second World War (3x19: “Deadly Sins”), in the battle of Waterloo . The series focuses on adventures shared by friends Amanda and Hugh “Fitz” Fitzkern.
The formation of Duncan’s character was influenced by many things and many people. Having started his career as a young one, full of bravado (based on naivety), immortal, reckless and uneducated, he is gradually changing, traveling the world, getting an education, becoming wiser. Duncan speaks many languages, among them Gaelic, English, French, Italian, Russian, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, German and Arabic, he is an expert in many forms of martial arts. During his life, he did many things: he was a soldier, worked as a bodyguard, newspaper editor, ambulance driver during the First World War. At the time of the development of the series, he is a dealer and owner of an antiques store, a little later the owner of a sambo school and a part-time history teacher.
1992-1998 - the time of the development of the series - a critical period for Duncan, during which many important events take place in his life. The pilot episode "Gathering" depicts Duncan returning to the Game after a half-retirement period with his girlfriend Tessa Noel, and talks about a meeting with his clan member and mentor Connor MacLeod.
During the six seasons of the series, Duncan meets many old friends and enemies. He loses people (Tess, the love of his life (2x04: “Darkness”)), but takes care of his immortal (monk Darius (The Hunters) and Hugh Fitzkairn (Unhappy)) and his mortal friends (Charlie Desalvo (Brothers) in arms ")). Takes under the wing of Richie Ryan (“The Gathering”), which later became immortal (“The Darkness”), meets new people, for example, Joe Dawson, who tells him about the organization of the Observers who secretly watch all Immortals (2x01: “The Observers”), Methos , the oldest of the Immortals (3x16: Methos), the demon Ahriman (Armageddon).
Scene
The first part of each season was filmed in Vancouver , British Columbia, and the second part in Paris , France . This is the reason Duncan travels back and forth every six months.
The Highlander: The End of the Game tells of the Immortal Jacob Kell, who spent the last four centuries, all of Connor MacLeod's close ones, accusing him of killing his adoptive father. Kell also wants to kill Duncan to make Connor suffer. Therefore, Connor forces Duncan to kill him, to absorb his strength, thus allowing Duncan to defeat Kell. Duncan once again loses a friend, but in the end he realizes that Connor's death was necessary, and that was the only possible way for him to kill Kell. Duncan bury Connor in the mountains of Scotland, Glenfinnan , next to his first wife Heather.
In the movie Highlander: The Source, Duncan married a mortal woman named Anna, but broke up with her. He met her again in the holy land, participating in the search for the Source of Immortality after the death of Joe Dawson. Upon reaching the goal, defeating the guard, he enters the Source with Anna and finds out that she is pregnant with their child.

Combat Skills
Duncan considers himself an “old soldier” [1] , war has always been a part of his life, he was raised to be a warrior. As a perfectionist, he always strives for self-improvement and never misses an opportunity to learn new techniques. To begin with, Duncan mastered the art of fencing (he can fight with both hands), then he studied martial arts while traveling in East Asia. His sword is a katana , with the head of the Dragon on the hilt, which he received from Samurai Hideo Koto more than 200 years ago during his wanderings in Japan. Duncan was supposed to inherit the ancient sword of his (adoptive) father, the leader of the MacLeod clan , but this did not happen due to his exile, the sword remained within the clan (in one of the episodes, he finds his father’s ancient blade hanging on a wall in a Scottish tavern, and uses it to kill the immortal who destroyed his father). In fact, Duncan tries to avoid killing mortals, even when he is forced to fight them, and tries to use non-lethal methods of struggle. Although MacLeod has been involved in many armed clashes and is familiar with the use of firearms, he rarely appears with a gun during the series.
