Returning to Prague, he decided to devote himself to music, studied with Indřich Kaan (piano) and Joseph Klitschka (organ). For some time he worked with Kaan as an assistant. In 1896, after an unsuccessful attempt to gain a teaching position at the Prague Conservatory , he founded his own clavier school in Pilsen , in 1903 he transferred it to Prague; Mikesh’s students were later known musicians: Otakar Ostrchil , Roman Vesely , Jan Gerzhman . In 1920-1928 taught at the Higher School of the Prague Conservatory. On the whole, through his pedagogical career, Mikesh gained a reputation as an experimenter and theorist who sought to clarify the acoustic and psychological foundations of the work of the pianist, as opposed to another leading teacher of this time, Willy Kurtz , who held purely empirical and practical positions.
