Meitner Crater ( lat. Meitner ) is a large ancient impact crater in the equatorial region of the far side of the Moon . The name is given in honor of the Austrian physicist and radiochemist Lisa Meitner (1878-1968); approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1970. The formation of the crater belongs to the nectar period [1] .

Crater Description
The immediate neighbors of Meitner Crater are the huge Pasteur Crater in the west; Einthoven Crater in the north-north-west; Vesalius crater in the north; Langemak Crater in the east; Kondratyuk Crater in the southeast; Hvolson crater in the south and Hilbert crater in the southwest [2] . Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 87.3 km [3] , depth 2.8 km [1] .
Meitner Crater has a circular shape with a small protrusion in the southern part and is significantly destroyed. The shaft is flattened, the southern part of the shaft is almost equal to the surrounding area, the northeastern part of the shaft is overlain by the Meitner C satellite crater. In the western and eastern parts of the inner slope, the remains of the terrace-like structure are visible. the shaft height above the surrounding area reaches 1400 m [1] , the volume of the crater is approximately 7200 km³ [1] . The bottom of the bowl is relatively flat, dotted with many small craters. In the western part of the bowl there are two noticeable small bowl-shaped craters.
