Biography
Franz Xaver Goebel was born in 1787 in FΓΌrstenau (now Milin , Poland ), near Breslav [4] . He received his initial musical education and piano lessons under the guidance of his father, and the theory of music was taught by Abbot Georg Joseph Vogler and Johann Georg Albrechtsberger (1806) [5] .
In 1810, Goebel was invited as the bandmaster of the LeopoldstΓ€dter theater in Vienna , in 1813 - the city theater in Budapest , and a few years later in Lviv [5] .
In 1817, Franz Xaver Gebel moved to Moscow ( Russian Empire ), where he became famous as a pianist and organizer of chamber music concerts [5] . Goebel was also in demand as a musical musical teacher; among his famous students was, in particular, Alexander Ivanovich Villuan [6] .
F. K. Gebel is the author of four symphonies, several operas and overtures, an oratorio to the words of Ogarev, quartets and quintets, etc. Most of his works remained in the manuscript; seven quintets and quartet op. 20-28 at Jurgenson in Moscow; his overture, 2 instrumental suites, a cello sonata, a quartet D-dur, pieces for piano and guitar, songs, etc. were published abroad [5] .
Russian composer Mikhail Ivanovich Glinka in his letters recalls his close acquaintance with Goebel in Moscow [7] .
Franz Xaver Goebel died on May 3 (April 21), 1843 in the city of Moscow.
