Biography

Already at the age of 16, Immerman wrote the novel-drama " Prometheus ." He studied at Galle , participated in the war for liberation, was in the service for some time; founded a model theater in Dusseldorf and died suddenly in 1840 .

It’s difficult to bring Immerman to a specific literary school: he is also the continuer of the “storm and onslaught” period, he is both a romantic and a classic, idealist and realist. In his dramas, either reflection or fantasy predominates; form and content often suffer from eccentricity.

His most important dramatic works: “ The Tragedy in Tyrol ” (later renamed “Andreas Hofer”), the trilogy “Alexei” (Part I “Boyars”, II - “The Court in St. Petersburg”, III - “Evdokia”, written in the most diverse poetic size ), the Mystery “ Merlin ”, “ Emperor Frederick II ”, “ Petrarch ”, “King Periander and his House”, “Gismond”, “ Syracuse Princes”, “Eye of Love”, “Edwin”, etc.

His poems are unremarkable, but his fairy tale “Tulifäntchen” is very funny. Significant literary merits are distinguished by the novels: " Epigones " ( 1836 ), in which the thought is held: "the curse of the modern generation lies in the fact that it, not being comprehended by misfortune, should feel miserable"; Immermann's Munchhausen ridiculed the lies of social and family life; and contrasted with the unspoiled village estate in the workshop of the idyll "Oberhof". The poem " Tristan and Isolde " remained unfinished.
