Biography
Born January 21, 1978 in the city of Tbilisi.
In 1994 he graduated from the Ark school in Moscow.
In 2002 he graduated from the History Department of the Moscow State Humanitarian University named after M. A. Sholokhov .
Since 2000 - researcher, group of medieval archeology of the Eurasian steppes (since 2015, the department of medieval archeology) of the Institute of Archeology of the Russian Academy of Sciences.
In 2007, at the IA RAS, under the scientific supervision of a well-known historian and archaeologist, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor S. A. Pletneva, he defended his thesis for the degree of candidate of historical sciences on the topic “Khazar Tamatarha. (The cultural layer of Taman settlement of the 7th – 10th centuries). ”
Member of a number of archaeological expeditions (North Caucasus, Far East); since 2007 - head of the Taman medieval archaeological expedition (excavation of the Taman settlement ).
The author of several scientific publications in leading scientific journals and collections, including four monographs.
Scientific activity
The scientific interests of V. N. Chkhaidze lie in the field of studying the presence of Byzantium in the Northern Black Sea Region and the Eastern Ciscaucasia and its influence on Russia . Also, research is being conducted on the history and archeology of early medieval cities and settlements of the Taman Peninsula and Crimea , the interaction of the Byzantine Empire and the Khazar Kaganate .
Other fields of research of V. N. Chkhaidze is Byzantine sigillography . He studies the Byzantine seals of the 6th — 13th centuries found in the Northern Black Sea Region — a new and most important historical source that allows for a new outline of the zone of Byzantine interests in the North-Eastern Black Sea ..
The third area of scientific research of the scientist is the study of the antiquities of medieval nomads: Polovtsy , Mongol-Tatars , Nogais . V.N. Chkhaidze on archaeological materials and using the data of written sources, as well as anthropology, managed to identify the funeral monuments of Nogais who moved to the Kuban from the Budzhak steppe and wandered here in the XVII-XIX centuries.
