The Green Book of Ukraine is a list in which rare and typical plant groupings that require a special regime for their use are entered. Unlike the Red Book , the Green Book draws attention to the protection not of individual species, but of integral plant groups. The Green Book of Ukraine contains 126 rare and typical plant communities in need of protection. The first edition of the book took place in 1987 in the Ukrainian SSR . The second - in 2002, the third - in 2009.
The Green Book of Ukraine is one of the most progressive environmental documents, since the emphasis is not on the protection of individual species, but on the conservation of biodiversity as a whole within a given plant community [1] [2] .

History
The Green Book of Ukraine is an official state document that collects information on the current state of rare, endangered, and typical natural plant communities that are subject to protection. The Green Book is the basis for the development of conservation measures for the conservation, reproduction and use of natural plant communities listed in it. The protection of these groups is aimed at preserving their pristine structure, populations of rare plant species and growing conditions. The idea of creating the Green Book is based in Ukraine and is reflected in the monograph of the academician of NASU Shelyag-Sosonko Yu. R. “The Green Book of the Ukrainian SSR: Rare, Endangered and Typical, Plant Communities in Need of Protection”. This publication was devoted to describing the current state of rare plant communities and measures for their conservation and reproduction.
