The total length reaches from 40 to 60 cm. The head is short, wide, has a huge intermaxillary shield, which is obliquely cut. The body is moderately thick. The “hood” is poorly developed. The back has a light yellowish-gray color.
He loves sandy terrain, semi-deserts, foothill deserts. Active at night. Digs holes well. Hiding in the burrows of mammals. It feeds on small lizards and rodents.
The poison does not pose a threat to human life.
Oviparous snake. The female lays up to 10 eggs.
The species is common in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, the Republic of South Africa.
