Russian North National Park is a specially protected natural area in Russia . Located in the Kirillovsky district of the Vologda region .

It was founded on March 20, 1992 by the Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation No. 182 with the aim of preserving the unique natural complexes of the Vologda Lake District and the richest historical and cultural heritage of the region.

The area of ​​the park is 166,400 ha, of which 116,100 ha are forests. 54.4% of the territory is occupied by lands that entered without exemption from economic use. The park is located within the Belozersko-Kirillov ridge between the lakes Beloe , Vozhe , Kubenskoye . In addition to these large lakes, there are many small ones. Countless rivers, lakes, streams, channels flowing through the territory of the national park belong to the basin of the Caspian Sea, only the Porozovitsa river with its tributaries and Modlon to the basin of the White Sea . Many archaeological sites are concentrated on the Modlona and Porozovitsa rivers, which in fact reflect the entire cultural history of the North of European Russia . All historical eras (except the Paleolithic) have left their mark. On the Modlone River, the preserved Modlons pile settlement (one of two in Europe) was discovered.

These are lands with a rich historical past, on which a large number of monuments of architecture and history are located. About 17 thousand people live in the park (2010) [1] .

Content

Location

The territory of the national park is located 120 km northwest of the regional center - the city of Vologda . The following roads pass through the territory of the national park:

Vologda - Vytegra ,
Kirillov - Charozero ,
Kirillov - Belozersk ,
Kirillov - Cherepovets .

There is a ferry service. Of great transport importance are the Volga-Baltic waterway and the North-Dvina lock system [1] . Severo-Dvinskaya water system , built in 1825-1828. and passing through the park, is a monument of engineering, includes 5 artificial channels, 7 gateways. Recently, a bridge was opened across the Volga-Balt in the vicinity of the village of Ivanov Bor , which led to the closure of the corresponding ferry crossing. Through the channels of the Severo-Dvinsky system, they cross one automobile bridge on the Vologda-Medvezhyegorsk highway, and a number of pontoon bridges.

Tourism

There are 8 camp sites in the park, 5 children's recreation camps and a summer labor camp for adolescents; 4 hunting and fishing bases [2] .

Nature

The park has two unique forests - Shalgo-Bodunovsky and Sokolsky Bor with rich northern flora and fauna . The first is inaccessible, the second is a popular holiday destination. Some species of animals and birds that live in the park, as well as some species of growing plants are listed in the Red Book.
