Biography
Born into a peasant family. He graduated from the primary 4-grade parochial school in his native village (1919), then the second-level Verkhovazhsk school (1922), the Velsky pedagogical college (1925). In 1924 he joined the ranks of the Komsomol .
Since 1930, after graduating from the geological department of the Physics and Mathematics Faculty of Leningrad University , he worked in Ukraine from the Mineralrud association for the exploration of kaolin.
In 1931-1932 he served in the Red Army - a cadet, then the platoon commander of the Regiment of armored trains.
In 1935 he graduated from the graduate school of the Institute of Mineralogy of the USSR Academy of Sciences, after which he worked as a research fellow (since 1937 - senior scientific fellow) of the Institute of Geological Sciences of the USSR Academy of Sciences. At the same time he taught mineralogy at the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold (1938-1940).
Since 1941 - member of the CPSU (b) . In 1941-1944 he participated in the Great Patriotic War - platoon commander of the Regiment of armored trains, Training regiment of armored trains.
Since 1944, he has been a senior researcher, since 1949 he has been the head of the ore deposits sector, and since 1950, he has been acting deputy director for science at the All-Union Institute of Mineral Raw Materials (VIMS). He participated in the work of the Southern Expedition for the Search for Mineral Raw Materials (1946-1948, Bulgaria ; in 1948 - the head of the expedition). At the same time he worked as a senior researcher at the Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1949-1954), and lectured in mineralogy at the Advanced Courses of Geologists and Engineering Staff of various ministries (1948-1961).
In 1954-1979 he headed the laboratory "Geochemistry of igneous rocks" at the Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences; in 1975-1979 he organized and conducted at the institute a scientific seminar "Geochemistry of igneous rocks" for geochemists and mineralogists of the Soviet Union.
He died on August 11, 1979 during the summer field work in Transbaikalia.
Scientific activity
In 1935 he defended his Ph.D. thesis (Ussingit of the Lovozero Tundra), in 1945 - his doctoral dissertation (Mineralogy of the Lovozero Alkaline Massif).
The main areas of research are the mineralogy of the Lovozero massif , where he discovered new minerals: Chinglusuite (1935), Lomonosovite (1936), Belyankinite (1936), Chkalovit (1936), Beta-Lomonosovite (1938), Williomite (1939), Lovozerite (1939) , hydrosodalite (1940), metal vapor (1941), nordite (1941), keldysh (1957).
In 1934, discovered (together with O.A. Vorobyova) industrial deposits of loparite ore on the Kola Peninsula .
Participated in foreign expeditions:
- 1964 Greenland - discovered (together with E. I. Semenov) a new mineral borensenite in the Ilimaussak massif;
- 1965-1966, Guinea - studied the nepheline syenites of the islands of the Forest;
- 1968-1969, East Africa ( Kenya , Tanzania , Uganda , Rwanda , Burundi ) - conducted geochemical studies of volcanic rocks of rift zones;
- 1971-1973, Iceland - collected (together with A. I. Polyakov) over 600 samples to study the chemical composition of igneous rocks .
He provided scientific advice in the CMEA countries on mineral exploration and geological and mineralogical studies ( GDR , Czechoslovakia , 1956; Bulgaria , 1964).
He repeatedly made presentations and participated in geological congresses and conferences:
- XVII International Geological Congress (Moscow, 1937)
- Conference on pegmatites and rare elements of the Ukrainian SSR (1939)
- XXI session of the International Geological Congress (Denmark, 1960)
- XXII session of the International Geological Congress (India, 1964)
- England (1966), France (1967), Japan, (1970)
- XXIII session of the International Geological Congress (Czechoslovakia, 1968)
- International Conference on the Geology of Africa (Nigeria, 1970)

- XXIV session of the International Geological Congress (Canada, 1972)
- IV All-Union Volcanological Conference (1974)
- All-Union Conference on Rift Zones (Irkutsk, 1975).
He was a member of the All-Union Mineralogical Society (since 1947), the Scientific Council of the Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1951-1979) and the Scientific Council of the Institute of Mineralogy, Geochemistry and Crystal Chemistry of Rare Elements (1968-1979), section of geochemistry of the National Committee of Geologists of the USSR (1968— 1970), expert commission of the Higher Attestation Commission (1960s - 1970s).
He was a member of the editorial boards of the journals "Notes of the All-Union Mineralogical Society" (1950-1979) and " Geochemistry " (1956-1979).
