Guinne Circus - Karl Guinne Circus, which existed in Moscow in the 19th century .
History
Karl Guinne came to Russia in the 1860s after failing in circus entrepreneurship in Europe . He was the brother-in-law of the famous Gaetano Ciniselli , whom he invited to become his business partner in St. Petersburg, where Guinne built a circus building next to the Mikhailovsky Manege (architects P.P. Mizhuyev and R. B. Bernhard ). However, the relatives did not work together, so Guinna had to leave for Moscow to start her business anew [1] .
In Moscow in 1868, Guinne built a stone building on Vozdvizhenka - this is how the first stationary circus appeared in the capital. Later, near this place was built a mansion Arseny Morozov . In terms of luxury and richness of the program, the Moscow Guinne circus could not compete with its St. Petersburg counterpart, it was designed for an unforgettable audience - merchants and artisans. The building was also often rented out for performances by touring companies [1] .
Guinne was not involved in the development of the circus and cared little about its prosperity, which is why he could not compete with the new circus of A. Salomonsky and was forced to retire [1] .
