Biography

Son of Peter Vasilyevich Sheremetev (lesser) . After the death of his father’s death, he was in the care of his relatives, one of whom, his maternal cousin, Count Fedor Matveyevich Apraksin, took a special, caring part. As a result, among others, Ivan Sheremetev, by order of the king on May 31, 1708, was sent abroad, to Holland and England, to study navigation. During his stay abroad, I. P. Sheremetev served in the English fleet and participated in various sea expeditions, including in 1714 to the West Indies . In 1716 he returned to Moscow.

In 1718, I. P. Sheremetev, with the rank of lieutenant fleet, signed, among others, the death sentence to Tsarevich Alexei . In 1719 he was promoted to lieutenant captain; in 1721 - captain of the 3rd rank. In 1721 he occupied the post of adviser to the St. Petersburg Admiralty Office; in 1722 he was appointed its manager (in 1723 he was replaced by I. A. Senyavin ). In the 1720s, under the leadership of Peter I, he organized the launching of new ships into the shipyards of St. Petersburg.

I.P. Sheremetev on March 30, 1726 was appointed adviser to the Admiralty Board (he assumed office April 22). By the order of Emperor Peter II on May 15, 1727, Ivan Sheremetev was promoted to captain-commander, leaving him present in the Admiralty Board, and on November 2 of the same year he was appointed captain-commander I. I. Dmitriev-Mamonov . In connection with the transition to civilian service on February 24, 1728, he was granted a full position of state councilors , with the retirement of a member of the Admiralty Board.

Due to illness, on March 11, 1728, the emperor allowed Sheremetev to live in Moscow until his recovery, and by his decree of May 18, 1728, appointed him to be present in the Senate, but after his accession, Anna Ioannovna was no longer a member of the senators: June 27, 1730 I. P. Sheremetev received the appointment of the Chief Judge of the “Office of Confiscation”, and by the Highest Decree of December 14, 1731 he was transferred to the position of the Chief Member (ie, Chairman) of the Siberian Order , located in Moscow.

He was married to Fedosye Andreevna [1] , but left no offspring. December 5, 1738 The Highest Order was ordered to take the yard of I.P. Sheremetev in St. Petersburg, near Galerny yard, under the jurisdiction of the main police department, and on September 13, 1740, the police department was entrusted to make various reorganizations in this house. In place of the Sheremetea court at the beginning of the 19th century, Quarenghi built the Anglican Church ( English Embankment , 56).
