The men's mountain bike competition at the first European Games took place on June 13th . 43 athletes from 31 countries took part. The competition distance was located on a special mountain bike for a mountain bike. The total length of the route was 36.7 km.
After 6 km, the leading group of 8 people was led by the winner of two Olympic Games Swiss Nino Schurter . Gradually, the leading group shrank and by 28 km Schurter went ahead of the race by 17 seconds ahead of the nearest pursuer. Until the finish of the race, the gap was only slightly reduced and Schurter became the champion of the first European Games. The second and third places were also won by representatives of Switzerland. Lucas Flukiger became the silver medalist, and Fabian Giger became the bronze medalist.
