Biography

Originally from a working-class family, Cher learned to be a locksmith . He joined the SPD in 1912 and a year later joined the Union of Transport Workers. He worked in the port of Hamburg, where he met Ernst Thalmann . In 1917, Cher joined the Nazi Party , and in 1919 - in the KKE . Since 1925 he was a candidate member of the Central Committee of the KKE, in 1929 became a member of the Central Committee. In 1932 he was elected deputy of the Prussian Landtag and from July of that year to 1933 was a deputy of the Reichstag . After the arrest of Ernst Thälmann in 1933, and until his death, he was chairman of the KKE. He was arrested on November 13, 1933 and taken to the Columbia concentration camp in Berlin. Cher consistently refused to provide Gestapo with information about people and events related to conspiracy , and was shot on February 1, 1934. For the execution is the personal responsibility of SS Bruno Zatler [1] .
