Biography
He was born in 1786 in St. Petersburg in the family of the book publisher Ivan Petrovich Glazunov (1762-1831) [2] , the brother of the founder of the oldest book company in Russia , MP Glazunov .
Received a good gymnasium education. He helped his father, managing editions and doing proofreading . After the death of his father, he traded with his brothers at the Glazunov Brothers firm. But in 1832 the brothers shared the matter - Ilya Ivanovich left the shops in the house of the Public Library and in the Gostiny Dvor on Sukonnaya Line . In 1836, in addition to publishing books, he took up the printing of theater posters and printed them until 1856. Then, together with A.F. Smirdin, Glazunov created a joint printing house. Glazunov also invited his sister Anna, who is married to Petersburg merchant and book publisher I.N. Kushinnikov, to share . In 1837, Smirdin sold the right to print exclusively to Glazunov and the printing house became known as Ilya Glazunov & Co.
Ilya Ivanovich Glazunov published mainly the works of famous Russian authors and educational books. He published the works of Russian writers - Batyushkov , Derzhavin , Lermontov , Marlinsky , Pushkin, Chemnitzer . He released a miniature edition of Eugene Onegin (5,000 copies), paying Pushkin for the right to publish 3,000 rubles, which quickly sold out within a week after the death of the poet. [3] In the 1840s, he was engaged in the publication of mainly educational books and manuals, which were supplied to the Holy Synod and the Ministry of Education. From 1831 to 1849, I. I. Glazunov published about 100 publications on pedagogy, fine literature, and theology.
Engaged in public activities - was the foreman of the third branch of the St. Petersburg General Duma and chairman of the merchant council. In 1832 he received the title of hereditary honorary citizen .
He died on February 20, 1849 . He was buried at the Volkov Cemetery in St. Petersburg. He left behind three children - Alexander (1829-1896), Ivan (1826-1890) and Konstantin (1828-1914), who continued his work.
