Clive Russell ( born Clive Russell ; born December 7, 1945) is a British actor. He is best known for his roles as Frederick Ebberline in Ripper Street , Angus O'Connor in Happiness, and Brinden Tully in the HBO series Game of Thrones .

Life and career
Russell was born in Rhyth, Yorkshire, England, and raised in Fife , Scotland [1] .
Russell first appeared in public in 1960 at the “Shary Lewis Show,” but his first acting job was in 1980 when he played on the London stage as a superintendent in the satirical play Anarchist's Accidental Death by Nobel Laureate Dario Fo , about corruption in the police of Italy. The reviews were good, and he repeated this role on television in 1983. After further honing his skills in various British television shows and several films, including Jute City, Strength of Personality , Hawk and One Screen, Russell got the role of Caleb Gareth in the BBC mini-series Wind of Change, based on the novel of the same name by George Eliot . A year later, he starred with Helena Bonham Carter in the movie Margaret Museum, for which he received a Gini nomination at the 16th Best Actor Awards. Russell played Father Rafe Fiennes in another critically successful film, Oscar and Lucinda . The growing recognition of his acting skills then earned him major roles in four major television series: Great Expectations, Oliver Twist, Children of the Road, and Mists of Avalon.
Television
Russell has a familiar and unforgettable face on British television and has appeared in a variety of television series, including Blackstaff Boys [2] , Hope and Glory, The Back Door , Great Expectations [3] , Avalon Mists [4] , “Cutthroats”, “Lord of the Valley”, “ Resurrecting the Dead ” [5] , “ Silent Witness ”, “Treachery of the Mountains” and “ Freaking ”. He also appeared on the TV series Still Playing, Happiness, Farewell to Habits, and The Cracker Method . From 2005 to 2006, Russell played Phil Neil in the television series ITV 's Coronation Street .
He appeared in the role of Jock in the third season of the JBC and Jerusalem series on BBC , Bayard, the King of Mercia in Merlin , and in the Babylon Hotel as an artist forced to stage his death in debt. In 2012, he was assigned to the role of Brindin's “Black Fish” Tully in the fantasy drama of HBO 's Game of Thrones channel [6] .
Movies
At Margaret Museum, a highly acclaimed film, he starred in the role of Gaelic-speaking Neil Curry, along with Helena Bonham Carter . Other Russell films include Festival, Ladies in Lilac, King Arthur , Friend of the Bride , Lecture 21, The Thirteenth Warrior , and The Wolfman .
He appeared in the 2009 film Sherlock Holmes as Captain Tanner, and repeated the role in the sequel to the 2011 film Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows . He appeared in the 2010 film " The Wolfman " as McQueen.
He currently plays Frederick Ebberline in the BBC One TV series Ripper Street . He played Thur in the movie Thor 2: The Kingdom of Darkness (2013) [7] .
