Initial Biography
Vasily Vasilyevich Koshelev was born on July 19, 1908 in the village of Anopino, Gus-Khrustalny District, Vladimir Region. [one]
Military Service
Pre-war time
In November 1930, he was drafted into the ranks of the Red Army and sent to the 3rd Turkestan Artillery Regiment ( 3rd Mountain Division , Central Asian Military District ), where, after a team of one-year-olds, he was appointed executive secretary of the Komsomol regiment's bureau.
In July 1931 he joined the ranks of the CPSU (b) , and in December 1932, he became the political instructor of the squadron of the 4th Mechanized Division ( 4th Turkmen Cavalry Division ). In 1936 he was awarded the Order of Lenin .
In February 1938 he was sent to study for courses on improving the political composition of the Lenin Red Army, after which in April of that year he was appointed to the post of squadron commander of the 4th Mechanized Division ( 18th Mountain Cavalry Division ), in August - to the post of commander of an armored squadron, and in May 1940 - to the post of commander of the 33rd armored division of the same division.
World War II
With the outbreak of war he was in his former position. In August - September, he took part in the introduction of Soviet troops into Iran , and in October he was sent to study for advanced training courses for commanding officers at the Red Army Military Academy of Mechanization and Motorization , after which, from January 1942, he temporarily served as an officer of the General Staff of the Red Army. In March, he was appointed to the post of officer of the General Staff at the tank division, in May - to the post of senior officer of the General Staff at the 23rd tank corps , and in October - to the post of chief of staff of this corps, which took part in defensive military operations near Stalingrad . In October, the corps was withdrawn to the Volga Military District ; during the period from October 16 to November 28, V.V. Koshelev, as the widow of the commander of this corps, dealt with issues of its formation.
On February 18, 1943, by order of the commander of the troops of the Southwestern Front, Colonel V.V. Koshelev was appointed chief of staff of the 2nd Panzer Corps , which during the Battle of Kursk took part in a counterattack from the area of the village of Belenikhino (30 km north of Belgorod ). December 15, 1943 VV Koshelev was awarded the rank of Major General of the tank forces. On September 19, 1943, the 2nd Panzer Corps was transformed into the 8th Guards Panzer Corps , which took part in the Belgorod-Kharkov , Lublin-Brest , Melavsk-Elbing , East Pomeranian offensive operations , as well as during the liberation of the cities of Lebedin , Lublin , Minsk-Mazowiecki , Ciechanow , Deutsch-Eilau , Danzig and others.
Post-War Career
After the war, Koshelev was in the same position. The corps in June 1945 was transformed into the 8th Guards Tank Division .
In January 1947 he was sent to study at the Higher Military Academy named after K.E. Voroshilov , after which he was appointed in March 1949 to the post of chief of the Tashkent Tank School , in March 1950 to the post of chief of staff of the 4th Guards Mechanized Army however, in May 1953 he was removed from his post and in August of the same year he was appointed to the post of head of the Saratov Tank School .
Since December 1957, he served as the head of the 4th department of the Directorate of the Units of the Ground Forces of the Main Directorate of Combat Training of the Ground Forces, from August 1958 he served as the Deputy Head of the Directorate of Universities of the Ground Forces, and since December 1960 he served as Deputy Head of the Directorate of the Universities of the Ground Forces and Non-Military Training .
Major General of the tank forces Vasily Vasilyevich Koshelev resigned in March 1968 . He died on October 14, 1992 in Moscow .
