Biography

Born in Petrozavodsk in the family of an artisan. He graduated from the 2nd Petrozavodsk Parish School, Petrozavodsk Higher National School in 1915.

In 1915-1916 attended the private studio of the artist-teacher of the Olonets Theological Seminary A. L. Andrievsky.

In 1915-1919 worked as a telegraph operator at the Petrozavodsk postal and telegraph office, passed an external exam for a gymnasium course.

In 1918 he studied in the studio of theatrical art N. V. Petrov in Moscow.

In 1919-1920 - Managing director, secretary of the collegium and chairman of the local committee of the Directorate of Communications of the Olonets province.

In 1920, he studied at the Higher Art and Technical Institute in Moscow.

Since 1922 - head of the izruzhka and decorator of the club of railway workers of the Petrozavodsk station .

In 1928–1930 - on correspondence courses on fabric painting in Moscow. Since 1929 - Chairman of the Board and artist-instructor of the workshop for the production of products of folk art of Petrozavodsk.

In 1932-1934 and 1938-1941. - Researcher at the Karelian Research Institute of Culture. He took part in trips to collect works of Karelian applied art, described more than 500 works of folk artists.

In 1936 he graduated from the 3 courses of the North Caucasus State Institute of Practical Knowledge in Rostov-on-Don .

In 1934, he was a teacher of fine arts at the 2nd auxiliary school in Petrozavodsk.

In 1936-1938 - Director of the Art Studio of the Central House of Culture of Petrozavodsk. In 1937 he participated in the Decade of Karelian art in Leningrad.

In 1941-1944 - on the Karelian Front as an artist of the front-line newspaper “The Voice of a Soldier”, announcer Karfinradio.

In 1944-1946 - Artist-decorator in the Karelian republican theater of musical comedy.

Since 1946. - Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR (1946). The works created by him are published in the 20th volume of the Great Soviet Encyclopedia and the 4th volume of the Small Soviet Encyclopedia.

In 1950-1952 - Methodist in the visual arts of the Karelian Republican House of Folk Art [1] . In 1952 and 1959 participated in the exhibition of works of Karelian artists in Moscow. Since 1954 - Inspector of the Ministry of Culture of the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic.

Since 1958 - a personal pensioner.

He was awarded diplomas of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the Karelian-Finnish SSR and the Karelian Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (1948, 1951, 1958) [2] . Author of over 300 publications in the central and local press, books on art history.

  • Silk album painting - a gift to the Hero of the Soviet Union I. D. Papanin (1938)
  • Sketches of panels for decoration of the First Karelian Pavilion of the All-Union Agricultural Exhibition (1939)
  • The embroidered panel on the theme of the national epos “Kalevala” - “Kulervo-shepherd”, “Lemminkäinen is hunting for the elk Hiisi”, “Väinämöinen playing the kantele” [3] .
