The history of the draft distribution of VNBA

VNBA Allocation Draft ( eng. WNBA Dispersal Draft ) is an additional VNBA Draft conducted by the league before the main draft when disbanding one or several teams, which was held in the format of a conference call . The teams were selected in the reverse order of their final position in the regular championship of the past season, regardless of the results of the draft lottery. Initially, all players of the dismissed clubs took part in the distribution draft, and with the appearance of the concept of “ free agent ”, players who became unrestricted agents after the end of last season were not allowed to participate in the draft. Usually, financially disadvantaged clubs, which had initial material support from any sponsors, but then for some reason lost their financial solvency, go to the distribution draft.

Throughout its history, five distribution drafts passed in the VNBA, during which six teams were disbanded. In 2003, two teams immediately ceased to exist ( Miami Sol and Portland Fire ), and in 2004, 2007, 2009 and 2010, one each ( Cleveland Rockers , Charlotte Sting , Houston Comets and Sacramento Monarchs , respectively). Three draft distributions took place in one calendar year with the main draft (2003, 2004 and 2007), the other two at the end of previous years (2009 and 2010, that is, at the end of 2008 and 2009). "Sacramento Monarchs" was the last club VNBA, ceased to exist, after the liquidation of which the league acquired its current appearance.
