Ivanov, Anton Andreevich

Anton Ivanovich Ivanov (1815 - 1848 [2] ) was a Russian sculptor , raised in 1824 - 1836 at the Imperial Academy of Arts , where S.I. Galberg was his main mentor.

Anton Ivanov was born in 1815. The son of a commissioner of the 12th class, he was admitted to the Imperial Academy of Arts in 1824.

In 1831 he was appointed to the professor of painting Varnek, then to the professor of sculpture Samuel Galberg, under whose leadership he graduated from his art education, with the title of the artist of the 14th class [3] .

Having received a small gold medal for the bas-relief: "St. John the Baptist preaches to the people", in 1835 , and a large gold medal (1839) for the statue "Young Men Playing Towns" (located in the academic museum). In 1841 he went to Rome , as a pensioner of the Academy . After his return, St. Petersburg , in 1846 , received the title of academician [4] .

Soon after that, as one of the best Russian sculptors of that time, he was invited to participate, together with N. Romazanov and A. Loganovsky , in decorating the external walls of the Moscow Cathedral of Christ the Savior with high-sculptured saints, but in the heat of the works on this order died in 1848 [5] .

Of his works, plaster bas-reliefs deserve special attention: β€œChrist heals a blind man” and β€œHealing a demoniac”, in the home church of the Academy of Fine Arts, a statue of the Apostle Peter, in the church of Shuvalov Park in Pargolovo , marble bust of the president of the Russian Academy A. Shishkov (located in The Imperial Academy of Sciences) and in particular the marble statues: "Paris" and "Young Lomonosov in their homeland", performed in Rome and later acquired by the Imperial Hermitage [4] .
