Strumigenys radix (lat.) - a species of small earthen ants from the subfamily Myrmicinae . Australia Small ants (about 2 mm) with a heart-shaped head, extended posteriorly. The head is covered with wide scaly-like bristles. Mandibles elongated thin (with 2 preapical teeth), their length (ML) is less than the maximum width of the anterior margin of the clypeus . Antennae 4-segmented. Head length (HL) 0.47 mm, head width (HW) 0.36 mm. It differs from Strumigenys anchis in the absence of a ventro-lateral head notch in front of the eyes. The stalk between the breast and the abdomen consists of two segments: the petiolus and postpetiolus (the latter is clearly separated from the abdomen), the sting is developed, pupae are naked (without cocoon). Specialized coleball hunters. The species was first described in 2000 by the English worldmecologist Barry Bolton . It is included in the species group emmae species group (together with S. anchis , S. emmae , S. miniteras , S. pnyxia , S. bibis , S. sutrix [1] .
