International scientific name

Aetomylaeus Garman , 1908

The genus name comes from the merger of the names of the two genera of the bracken stingrays Aetobatus and Myliobatis [2] .

Reproduction occurs by egg-laying . The pectoral fins of these slopes have the shape of “wings” and grow together with the head, forming a diamond-shaped disk. The characteristic shape of a flat snout formed by the fused front edges of the pectoral fins resembles a duck nose [3] . A thin tail is much longer than the disk. On the tail of some species there are several poisonous spines. Behind the eyes are splashers . On the ventral side of the disc are the nostrils, mouth and 5 pairs of gill slits . The maximum width of the disk reaches 240 cm.

Classification

The genus currently includes 5 species:

  • Aetomylaeus caeruleofasciatus WT White , Last & Baje , 2015
