Biography
Benyamino Bonomi was born on March 9, 1968 in the municipality of Verbania of the province of Verbano-Cusio-Ossola . He began to actively engage in rowing in early childhood, was trained in the sports club "Group Nautiko Fiamme Gyalle."
He achieved his first serious success at the adult international level in 1988, when he joined the Italian national team and thanks to a series of successful appearances, he won the right to defend the honor of the country at the Seoul Summer Olympics , where he finally finished ninth in doubles at five hundred meters and seventh place in fours at a thousand meters.
In 1991, he visited the World Cup in Paris, from where he brought the silver dignity award, won alone by ten kilometers. Being one of the leaders of the Italian rowing team, he successfully qualified for the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona - he became the fifth in loners at a distance of 1000 meters, not reaching the prize positions.
At the 1995 World Championships in Duisburg, Germany, he won the program of double kayaks at half a kilometer distance. Later he went through the selection for the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta - in a half-kilometer discipline, together with Daniele Scarp, he won the silver award, losing only to the German crew in the final, while he took another silver Olympic medal alone on a thousand meters. The following season, at the World Championships in Canada, Dartmouth went up to the podium three times, added three silver medals to his track record: singles per kilometer, as well as twos at two hundred and five hundred meters. In addition, he performed at the European Championships in Bulgarian Plovdiv, where he became a bronze medalist in singles at a thousand meters and a champion in doubles at five hundred.
In 1998, at the World Championships in Hungarian Szeged, Bonomi received two silver medals, in the classification of double kayaks at five hundred meters and in the classification of four-seat kayaks at two hundred meters. Two years later, he went to represent the country at the Sydney Olympics - together with his new partner, Antonio Rossi took seventh place at a distance of 500 meters and became the champion at a distance of 1000 meters. Subsequently, at the age of thirty-six, he selected for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens , where, together with the same Rossi, finished eighth at five hundred meters and took bronze at a thousand - the crew from Sweden turned out to be the best at the finish. Soon after the Athens Olympics, Benyamino Bonomi decided to end the career of a professional athlete, giving way to young Italian rowers in the national team.
Commander of the Order of Merit for the Italian Republic (2000) [1] . After completing his sports career, he switched to coaching, in particular, he held the position of head coach of the Italian women's kayaking and canoeing team.
