Progress of the final match
Voroshilovgrad "Dawn" and Yerevan "Ararat" for the first time met in the framework of the finals in the history of the USSR Cup. Before that, they converged twice at different stages of this tournament: in 1939, the residents of Yerevan went further because of the non-appearance of the opponent, in the quarter finals in 1973, following the results of two meetings, the players of “Ararat” were stronger (2: 0 at home and 0: 1 on a visit) [1] .
With the start of the match, the initiative was taken over by the players of Dawn. On the 8th minute, 20 meters to the right of the “Ararat” gates, Sanasar Gevorkian fouled. Performing a free-kick, Dawn player Alexander Zhuravlev gave a short pass to Viktor Kuznetsov . That strong and accurate kick sent the ball into the net, opening the scoring in the match. But already after 6 minutes, the people of Yerevan managed to recoup. The inconsistency of the actions of the goalkeeper and defenders of the "Dawn" took advantage of Arkady Andriasyan . The ridiculous goal took away the confidence in the actions of the players of “Dawn”, and “Ararat” gradually seized the advantage in the game. Twice after Gevorkian’s strikes, goalkeeper Voroshilovgradtsev Alexander Tkachenko knocked the ball out from under the crossbar, but in the 43rd minute he didn’t even react to the jewel punch to the bottom corner of the 43rd minute of Edward Markarov . Thus, just before the break, “Ararat” took the lead.
After the break, “Zarya” returned the former confidence in its actions and tried to besiege the “Ararat” gates. Those, in turn, counted on counterattacks. However, in the second half, the spectators did not see the goals scored and the Yerevan “Ararat” won the USSR Cup for the second time in its history [2] .
