Biography

Joseph Lvovich was born on August 22, 1914 in a Jewish family, in the town of Satanov (now it is the Gorodok district of the Khmelnitsky region, Ukraine). At the age of 13, he began his career, first working as a postman, and then from 1929 to 1931. Secretary of the Village Council . In 1931, on a Komsomol ticket, he left for the construction of the Magnitogorsk Metallurgical Plant , where he worked as a locksmith apprentice , and then as a locksmith . In 1934, he entered the Moscow Institute of Non-Ferrous Metals and Gold . He graduated with honors ( engineer diploma - metallurgist). In 1939, at the end of the institute, as an excellent student was left in graduate school at the Department of Electrochemistry and Metal Corrosion . During these years, fate brought him together with Georgy Vladimirovich Akimov , a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences , founder of the Soviet scientific school of corrosion . By the summer of 1941, Iosif Lvovich was almost ready for a candidate dissertation and the candidate minimum was passed. However, he did not have time to defend his dissertation, having volunteered for the front. He was the commander of a rifle platoon, the head of the chemical service of the rifle division. Participated in hostilities during the defense of Moscow , Stalingrad , the liberation of Orel , Chernigov , forced the Dnieper . He finished the war near Warsaw . After the war, Joseph Lvovich returned to Moscow and joined the Institute of Economics and Economics , in the capacity of senior researcher . In January 1946 he defended his thesis , and after 5 years - his doctorate . In 1947, Joseph Lvovich married Seraphim Evgenievna Maron, with whom he studied at the same institute. In 1954, he became the head of the laboratory of corrosion and structural protection at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the Academy of Sciences , in 1965 he headed the Department of Corrosion Protection of IFKhAN . Joseph Lvovich worked at the Institute of Physical Chemistry of the USSR Academy of Sciences for 35 years. He died on August 31, 1981, was buried at the Kuntsevsky cemetery in Moscow.
