A characteristic feature of this genus is the location of the eyes. The middle pair of eyes in the back row is at the same distance from each other as from the side eyes. The front row of eyes forms a curve directed forward by the bulge. The abdomen of reticulum is oblong and compressed laterally.

Numerous species of chain webs weave a web that has a roof-shaped shape and is located horizontally low above the ground among the grass. Oblique threads depart from the web in all directions and attach to the stems and leaves of plants. Spiders sit or hang on the web with their backs down, crouching their prey.

Males and females live together during mating. Females lay their eggs in small round nests near the web and guard them.

The most common species in Central Europe - Linyphia triangularis , Linyphia montana , Linyphia nebulosa , Linyphia minuta - are found in forests and meadows, and the last three species are also found in homes.
