ECDL - European Computer Driving License (ECDL - European Computer Rights, also known as ICDL - International Computer Rights) - an independent international certification of personal computer skills.
ECDL certificate is a generally accepted standard in Europe and the USA , confirming that its holder is familiar with the basic concepts of information technology, knows how to use a personal computer and the most common applications. To date, more than 12 million people have been tested in 148 countries.
In many countries, an ECDL certificate is required in schools (eg Germany [1] ), universities (eg Italy [2] [3] , Saudi Arabia [4] , Egypt [5] ) or when applying for a job or promotion through the ranks in public institutions (for example, Greece [6] , Egypt [5] , Sri Lanka [6] ).
Although many tests are platform and software- independent, they primarily use Microsoft operating systems to prepare for them.
