Story

The final scene of the film takes place on the roof of the Bank of Bilbao building.

Julia ( Carmen Maura ) is a real estate agent assigned to sell an apartment in the center of Madrid . The woman, however, is in no hurry to sell and spends time in the apartment herself.

Over time, she pays attention to the strange behavior of neighbors. It turns out that the deceased once won 300 million pesetas on a sports tote. The whole staircase knows about this, the neighbors even even distributed this money in advance among themselves.

Having guessed the dead man’s code, Julia finds this money and tries to save it from the residents of the house. However, leaving the house is not so easy.

Filming

According to the authors of the book “Cinema of Alex de la Iglesia,” the idea of the script (neighbors terrorizing a new tenant in the stairwell) was borrowed from the movie “ Resident ” (1976) by Roman Polanski [1] .

They also draw attention to the fact that in "Kommunalka" actors of the cinema, theater and television of the "old school" are shot. According to a quote from the director’s interview in the same book, Iglesia appreciated that these actors “have a rich inner life and they know how to reflect it in their game. That is why there are so many close-ups in the film ” [2] .

Speaking about the moral of the film, Iglesia explained that there are no goodies in it.

In Hollywood films, the main character must always be positive so that people can identify with him. In Kommunalka, I like the fact that the main character is also greedy. Actually, the film is that none of us is completely good. Unfortunately, I have a very pessimistic view of people's behavior [3] .

In Hollywood cinema the main character always has to be good so you can identify with them. What I really like about "La Comunidad" is that the heroine is greedy too. That's what the whole movie is about - none of us are completely good. Unfortunately I have a very negative point of view about human behavior.
