Christianity
Orthodox parishes are united in the Lugansk diocese (jurisdiction of the UOC-MP ). The city has about 20 Orthodox churches [1] (before the 1917 revolution, there were only 7 [2] ). The oldest Orthodox church in Lugansk is considered the Peter and Paul Cathedral of the XVIII century. Today, the central temple of the city is St. Vladimir's Cathedral [3] . By 1897, according to the 1st All-Russian Population Census, Lugansk was inhabited by 34 thousand people, of which 24 thousand, i.e. 70%, testified to their Orthodox religion. One of the shrines of the Orthodox Lugansk is the Lugansk icon of the Mother of God [4] . In addition to the parishes of the UOC-MP, in Lugansk for a short time there was an Orthodox parish of the UOC-KP ( Holy Trinity Cathedral ), which was abolished due to the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
Catholics were originally associated with the small diaspora of Polish exiles. In 1895, 65 Catholics lived in Lugansk [5] . In the post-Soviet era, Catholicism was revived with the help of the Ukrainian-Canadian center. A house was bought out in the city and rebuilt into the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (102 Mergelnaya St.) [6] . After Euromaidan and subsequent events, Catholicism in Lugansk again faded [7] .
Baptists of Lugansk are united in a number of small communities ("Emmanuel" on Novoselova, 6 [8] ; the community on Chernomorskaya, 76 [9] [10] , "The Way of Salvation" on Khersonskaya, 17 [11] ) and even until recently had Lugansk Regional Bible College (trans. Yuri Cherkassky, 1) [12] .
In pre-revolutionary times, a Lutheran community existed in Lugansk, represented mainly by ethnic Germans.
Seventh-day Adventists are represented by several communities [13] that are active in charitable activities [14] .
Also in the city there is an Armenian Gregorian community [15] and the parish of the United Methodist Church "Living Faith" [16] .
Jehovah's Witnesses in Lugansk stadiums gathered up to 6 thousand participants [17] . Their "kingdom hall" was located on Metrostroevskaya street, 6 [18]
Islam
Since 2010, Muslims have been conducting their services in the Cathedral Mosque , built with the help of the Kuwaiti authorities. In 2013, about 1 thousand believers gathered at the mosque on Kurban Bayram [19] . In addition to the mosque in Lugansk there is a religious organization "Salam" [20]
Judaism
In pre-revolutionary times, there were 3 synagogues in Lugansk, which were closed in 1935. For 2015, there was only one synagogue in the city (St. 50 years of the founding of the USSR, 24) [21]
Eastern religions
Also in Lugansk there is a Buddhist center of the Karma Kagyu School [22] . About 50 people gather for the events of this community [23] . Another religion of the eastern tradition is the Hare Krishna community , which however ceased its activities in connection with the war in the Donbass [24]
