"Cart Song" (at the USSR box office - "Song of the Cart", 荷 車 の н : niguruma no uta ; The Cart Song ) is a Japanese black and white drama film created by one of the most prominent figures of "independent" Japanese the movie was directed by Satsuo Yamamoto and released in 1959 . The film is based on the story of Tomoe Yamashiro.

Story
The action begins to develop during the Meiji period (from 1894 ) in one of the mountain villages of central Japan ( Hiroshima Prefecture ). The life story of one couple has been shown for more than fifty years (through 1945 ), during a period of profound changes in Japanese society.
A lot of adversity fell on the share of the worker of Seki, serving in the mansion of the nobleman. One day she meets Moity, a rural cabman who makes a living by transporting mail on a cart. Seki falls in love with Moichi and marries him. But in old age, having accumulated a small capital, Moity makes a lover, a lazy woman of about fifty, and humiliates her wife by the presence of another woman in the house.
The film shows the difficult life of the peasants, the humiliating position of Japanese women and how desperate poor people are organized to fight for their rights.
