From memoirs of contemporaries
- Tatyana Khvostenko : “... I did not start from scratch. My father, Vasily Veniaminovich Khvostenko, is an artist and researcher who developed the technology and techniques of modern encaustic. Thanks to his works, encausticism from the former “troublesome kind of painting”, as Pliny wrote about it, turned into a convenient, accessible for every artist technique. The priority of V. V. Khvostenko in the development of encaustic is officially enshrined in copyright certificates, and most importantly - in his work. The hereditary Russian painter (his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father were icon painters), who revived the ancient art of encaustics — wax painting — predetermined my range of interests and research. We have worked with him side by side for a long time ” [16] .
