Description

Construction of a skyscraper began in early 1995 and was completed at the end of next year. Such rapid construction took place despite a number of complications: a high-speed transport line passing nearby, historic buildings surrounding the construction site, and huge boulders and old piles found when digging the foundations under the ground. During the construction of the used caisson , the skyscraper rests on 900 small piles. A total of 8,600 tons of structural steel and 31,000 m³ of concrete were used [2] . Previously, the building was called the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi in honor of the main tenant.

Despite the fact that Singapore is located in a relatively seismically safe zone, the skyscraper is made resistant to earthquakes . The sides of the building have triangular planes that reduce the effects of winds. Fire escapes and elevators are located on the central axis of the skyscraper. Among Republic Plaza tenants, there is the Mali Consulate on the 32nd floor and the Consulate of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines on the 58th floor; [3] .
