On September 13, 2017 at 00:17:02 Moscow time, it started from the Baikonur Cosmodrome as a flight engineer of the crew of the Soyuz MS-06 transport manned spacecraft and flight engineer of the International Space Station crew under the ISS-53 / 54 main space expeditions program. He returned to Earth on February 28, 2018. The flight duration was 168 days 05 hours 14 minutes. He made four spacewalks with a total duration of 26 hours 42 minutes. Biography

Wande Hey was born November 10, 1966 in the city of Falls Church ( Virginia , USA) in the family of Thomas and Mary Wande Hey. In 1985, he graduated , a private Catholic preparatory high in St. Louis Park , Hennepin County , Minnesota, and entered St. John’s University , where he received a bachelor of science degree in physics in 1989 [1] [ 2] .

Since 1989, he was called up for military service under the training program for reserve officers of the US Armed Forces . After completing the basic army course, he served in engineering positions in the 3rd battalion of the 325th Infantry Regiment of the Parachute - Airborne Battalion at the US military base in Italy . In 1991, as a platoon commander, he participated in the NATO Provide Comfort operation in Iraq . Then he continued his service at the headquarters of the 299th and 4th engineering battalions, after which he became company commander in the 4th engineering battalion [1] .

In 1999, he graduated from Stanford University with a Master of Science degree in Applied Physics , after which he was sent to teach at the Department of Physics at the US Military Academy at West Point . Since 2003, he served in the 1st Space Battalion at ( Colorado ). In the spring of 2003, as the leader of the army space support group, Wanda Hey spent 12 months in Iraq , where he participated in the military operation of the international coalition, code-named " Iraqi Freedom " [1] .

June 29, 2009 was enrolled in the NASA astronaut squad as part of NASA's 20th set as a candidate for astronaut. Wande Hey completed a two-year course in general space training in July 2011 and qualified as an astronaut [3] . From June 2012 to May 2013, Wande Hai was the director of NASA's Star City office [4] [1] .

From July 21 to 29, 2014, according to NASA plans, Wande Hey participated in an underwater expedition as an aquanaut aboard the underwater laboratory during the mission for operations in the extreme environment NEEMO-18 [5] .

He was trained as a flight engineer of the backup crews of the Soyuz MS-02 and Soyuz MS-05 TPKs [2] . On June 22, 2015 he was appointed flight engineer of the main crew of the Soyuz MS-04 spacecraft together with astronauts A. Misurkin and N. Tikhonov [4] . In January 2016, members of the main crew underwent training in the event of an emergency landing in a wooded area in winter [3] . In October 2016, due to the reduction in the number of Russian cosmonauts in the ISS crews to two people [6] [7] , the crew of the Soyuz MS-04 TPK was completely changed. On October 28, 2016, the Interdepartmental Commission of Roscosmos State Corporation approved the composition of the main and backup crews of the long-term expeditions ( ISS-51 / 52 , 52/53 , 53/54 , 54/55 ) to the International Space Station in 2017. Astronaut Mark T. Wande Hey was included in the main crew of the Soyuz MS-06 TPK [8] .

Space Flight

September 13, 2017 at 00:17:02 Moscow time, Mark Wande Hey, together with cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin and astronaut Joseph Akaba, took off as a flight engineer for the crew of the Soyuz MS-06 spacecraft and the crew of the International Space Station under the ISS-53 / 54 [9] . The flight to the ISS was carried out according to the “short” six-hour four-turn scheme. At 05:55 Moscow time on September 13, the Soyuz MS-06 spacecraft automatically docked to the International Space Station at the docking node of the Search module [10] .

Wande Hey made four EVAs with a total duration of more than 26 hours. During his first release on October 5, 2017, he, along with NASA astronaut R. Breznik, was repairing the gripping mechanism of the Canadian Canadarm2 manipulator for 6 hours 55 minutes. On October 10, astronauts continued work in outer space to repair the manipulator, they lubricated the new capture on the station's mechanical manipulator and replaced cameras on the left side of the station's farm and on the right side of Destiny's American laboratory. The duration of the second exit was 6 hours 26 minutes [11] . On January 23, 2018, Wande Hay and NASA astronaut Scott Tingle spent 7 hours 24 minutes in outer space to replace the failed Canadarm2 gripper. On February 16, 2018, Wande Hey went into outer space for the fourth time together with astronaut Norishige Kanai . The astronauts dismantled the inoperative LEE-B gripping mechanism of the Canadarm2 manipulator and transferred it to the airlock compartment of the Quest module for subsequent return to Earth; the duration of work in space was 5 hours 57 minutes [12] .

The crew landed on the descent vehicle of the Soyuz MS-06 spacecraft on February 28, 2018 at 05 hours 31 minutes (Moscow time), 146 km southeast of the city of Zhezkazgan in Kazakhstan [13] .
