Biography
Born in 1861 in St. Petersburg [2] in the family of Ivan Fedorovich Ilovaisky and Maria Grigoryevna, nee Prince. Trubetskoy [3] .
In 1879 he graduated from the 6th St. Petersburg Gymnasium with a silver medal and entered the law faculty of St. Petersburg University , which he graduated in 1882. He was left at the Department of Financial Law and, at the same time, began his service at the State Bank of St. Petersburg. In 1886 he was appointed privat-docent of financial law at the Novorossiysk University ; January 27, 1887 gave an introductory lecture: "The definition, content and importance of the science of financial law in connection with a brief outline of the financial situation of the most important states." After defending his dissertation, “Indirect taxation in theory and practice” was approved in the master's degree in financial law. Since 1893 - an extraordinary professor at the Imperial Novorossiysk University.
In 1896, approved by the honorary magistrate of Odessa.
From January 26, 1898 - a college counselor , from November 12, 1902 - a state councilor . In December 1902, he was awarded the Order of St. Sava of the 3rd degree for the gratuitous performance of the duties of the treasurer of the Odessa Serbian Society. In 1904 he was awarded the Russian Order of St. Anne of the 3rd degree. He also had a silver medal in memory of the reign of Emperor Alexander III.
S.I. Ilovaysky had a land plot in the Gagrinsky district of the Sochi district of the Black Sea province .
He died of a gunshot wound on April 13 ( 26 ), 1907 in Odessa [4] and was buried at the Resurrection Cemetery of Odessa .
He was married to Ekaterina Sergeevna Somova (1862-1944). Their marriage was childless. S. I. Ilovaysky was fond of mountaineering ; since 1891 he was a member, and then - a fellow (deputy) chairman of the Crimean-Caucasian Mountain Club, and after his death, Ekaterina Sergeyevna Ilovaiskaya edited “Notes of the Crimean-Caucasian Mountain Club”; was an honorary member of this club. She also continued her husband's charity work. By an imperial decree of November 22, 1907, for the 22-year-old impeccable service of S.I. Ilovaysky, the widow was assigned an enhanced pension, but much less than the one she applied for: instead of 1200 - 700 rubles a year.
In 1900, the Russian Mountain Society was organized in Moscow. On behalf of his board, Ilovaisky participated in the International Alpine Congress, which took place in Paris the same year. Ilovaysky was elected chairman of the Caucasian branch of the Russian Mining Society. Ilovaysky dedicated his book “Climbing to Tyrol” (Odessa, 1913) by his mountain climbing comrade N. Poggenpol, who spoke of him as “a climber in the soul and friend of all the lofty and good.”
