As a student of the Gnesins Moscow Secondary Special Music School, he participated in various Russian and international music programs - in particular, in the International Festival in honor of the 100th anniversary of Sergei Prokofiev ( 1991 , Italy ).

He graduated from the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Lev Naumov . In his student years he became one of the winners of the Neuhaus Moscow Festival of Young Pianists ( 1998 ), the winner of the Scottish International Pianists Competition ( 1998 ) and the Busoni International Pianists Competition ( 1999 ), the winner of the third prize of the Chopin International Pianists Competition ( 2000 ). In 2003 , Kobrin was awarded the second prize (in the absence of the first) at the International Piano Competition in Hamamatsu ( Japan ). Finally, in 2005 , Alexander Kobrin won the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition .

Kobrin tours widely around the world. Among his recordings are works by Chopin , Brahms , Rachmaninov .
