Mountain Botanical Garden of the Dagestan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences (official name is the Federal State Budgetary Institution of Science Mountain Botanical Garden of the Dagestan Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences; for short - GorbSNC DSC RAS) is a state academic scientific institution in Makhachkala . On December 10, 1986, the Plant Genetics Laboratory, interested in creating a permanent mountain experimental base and expanding research in the field of botanical and genetic resource science, got the right to create a "Mountain experimental base (Botanical Garden) of the Department of Biology" on the Gunib Plateau .

History
Attempts to create a botanical garden in the capital of Dagestan have been made several times:
- at the end of the 1920s, the first scientific institution of Dagestan - the Institute of Dagestan Culture,
- in the beginning of the 50s - by the Plant Resources Department of the Dagfial of the USSR Academy of Sciences,
- in the 60s - by the Daggosuniversitet.
For various reasons, all these attempts were unsuccessful. However, in October 1972, the Department of Biology was opened, which included the creation of a laboratory with a general direction of research “genetics and evolution of natural plant populations” with an experimental station on the Gunib plateau.
- 1986 - The Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences adopted the Decree on the creation of the Mining Experimental Base (Botanical Garden)
- 1992 - Resolution on the transfer of the Mountain Botanical Garden to the status of a research institution of the DSC RAS
- on the territory of the Levashinsky district, 10 hectares of land are assigned to the GBS of the DSC RAS: 2 km from Tsudahar, the right bank of the Sana River, the right tributary of the Kazikumuhskoy Koisu river.
- August 17, 1982 - The Council of Ministers of the DASSR issued a decree on the allocation on the Gunib Plateau of 500 hectares of land, mainly forest, to create the "Mountain-Dagestan State Botanical Garden."
- 1992 - The Mountain Botanical Garden receives the status of a research institution (as an institute) of the DSC RAS. [one]
Structure
The structure of the Mountain Botanical Garden has 7 divisions :
three science labs
- flora and plant resources,
- introductions and genetic resources of woody plants,
- phytochemistry and medical botany.
Four research support units :
- Gunib and Tsudahar experimental bases,
- Exposition center
- Herbarium.
| The HBS represents a system of experimental bases located along a high-altitude ecological gradient, which allows one to obtain completely new information on the resource potential, plasticity and stability of characters, genotype-environment interactions, and microevolutionary processes. Evaluation of field collections by complexes of economically valuable traits in a heterogeneous environment allows us to assess the potential of the genetic resources of wild and cultivated species and to facilitate their involvement in the breeding process.
