The population of Sierra Leone is made up of 18 major ethnic groups. The predominant ethnic groups are darker (35%) and mende (31%). According to estimates for 2015, 78.0% of the population profess Islam and 20.9% - Christianity . The remaining 1.1% of the population are followers of traditional African religions [2] .
The official language of Sierra Leone is English , and the most common language is Creole cryo , which is used universally as lingua franca . Other common languages are mende and darker .
