Biography

Born in Paris, but soon the family moved to Villiers-sur-Couden, department of Oise. His father is a physiotherapist , his mother is a nurse [2] . Luke's grandmother is Russian, the daughter of white emigrants of the first wave [3] . The first acquaintance with music was limited to his father’s CD with Mozart’s works and flute lessons at a local school [2] .

According to Luke himself, his parents did not support his studies in music, believing that the future should primarily be connected with specific earnings [4] .

Luke began piano lessons at a school in Compiegne after his parents divorced when he was 11 years old. His teacher, Madame Münier ( French: Muenier ), realizing the student’s giftedness, tried to maintain the student’s craving for music, but did not rush him [5] . After completing his general education, Luke gave up music and left for the capital, where he entered the literary department of the University of Paris.

Luke received an electronic piano from his father and, by ear, began to pick up Mozart's symphonies and Bach's concerts. Then he took private lessons from various teachers [4] .

Attitude towards music changed after performing at a concert organized by the Compiegne mayor's office. There, at the request of the city, he played Toccata of Saint-Saens , Prelude of Chopin , Mephisto-Waltz of Liszt [2] .

The consequence of the concert was the admission to the Paris Higher National Conservatory of Music and Dance in the class of Jean Francois Essay , but mostly Debarg studied with Rena Shereshevskaya , a student of the professor at the Moscow Conservatory Lev Vlasenko [6] , in the regional conservatory of the city of Rueil-Malmaison and in the Paris Normal School of Music named after Alfred Corto .

Speaking about his student, Rena Shereshevskaya emphasizes his phenomenal abilities, expressed, in particular, in the ability to perform complex works from the ear. So it was, for example, with Scarbo ( French Scarbo ) from Gaspard Night ( French Gaspard de la nuit ) and Sonata No. 3 in A minor S. Prokofiev. Believing that during the performance of Luke’s works it is as if physically melted into the sound, conveying the subtle nuances of composer's thought, Rena forbade him to engage in gamma , fearing a decrease in such a gift [7] .

In the work of Debarg there is a place for jazz, which he plays in several Parisian ensembles. In addition, he pays attention to Russian music, in particular the works of Nikolai Metner , Nikolai Roslavets , Alexander Scriabin , Sergey Rachmaninov , Sergei Prokofiev [4] [6] .

Professional Achievements

In 2014, Luca Debarg won the IX International Piano Competition. Adilia Aliyeva in the French Gaillard ( French: Gaillard ). In December 2014, he took part in the V International Piano Competition in Minsk , but did not go further than the first round [6] .

XV International Competition P.I. Tchaikovsky

In 2015, twenty-four-year-old Luke Debarg at the XV International Competition. P. I. Tchaikovsky received the IV Prize, Diploma and Prize of the Association of Musical Critics of Moscow [4] . As officially noted [8] : “The prize of the Association of Musical Critics of Moscow at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition is awarded to a musician whose performances at the competition became a notable artistic phenomenon and whose unique talent, creative freedom and beauty of musical interpretations made a great impression on the public and criticism ” [6] . The prize itself was a recital of the performer in the Chamber Hall of the Moscow International House of Music , held on December 21, 2015 [9] .

Interestingly, before the Tchaikovsky Competition, he had no experience of performing with Luke’s orchestra . This had to be done twice at the competition - in the second round with a concert by V. A. Mozart and in the final with concerts by P. I. Tchaikovsky and Ferenc Liszt [6] .

Since then, his career has been developing rapidly, he gives about 60-70 concerts a year around the world in prestigious halls.
