Lucian Adamovich Yelets ( Lutsian [1] , Lukian ; 1833 ; Grodno province , Russian Empire - April 13, 1884 ) - major general of the Russian army in the army infantry, participant in the Caucasian and Russian-Turkish wars.

Biography

Lucian Yelets was born in 1833. Came from the nobility of the Grodno province . Catholic religion. In 1849 he graduated from the Polotsk Cadet Corps . In 1852, he graduated from the 1st rank in the Noble Regiment , and, with the rank of lieutenant, he entered the service of the St. Petersburg Grenadier King Frederick William III Regiment . In 1855 he entered the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff [2] , at the end of the course in which in 1857 he was assigned to the General Staff and continued his service in Eastern Siberia , coming to the disposal of the Governor-General [1] [3] .

Subsequently, Yelets was sent to the Main Headquarters of the Caucasian Army. He served as senior adjutant of the headquarters of the Terek region . He was especially distinguished in battles with the highlanders and the destruction of their auls during the expedition of the Przekh detachment to the upper river. Psekupsy in 1864, for which he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on August 30 of the following year, was awarded the Order of St. Stanislav of the 2nd degree and was appointed chief of staff of the 40th Infantry Division [1] .

On August 30, 1868, Yelets was promoted to colonel, and the following year he was appointed commander of the 67th Tarutin Infantry of the Great Duke of Oldenburg Regiment [1] .

During the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878, the Tarutino regiment, under the command of Colonel Yelts, acted at the European Theater of War as part of the Lower Danube detachment. On January 14, 1878, Yelets, at the height of the battle near Bazardzhik, arrived at the regiment in order to restore the shaken correct battle order. Soon after the distribution of the mouth in combat directions, Yelets received a minor wound in the leg and was sent to the dressing station. For victory in that battle, the 67th Tarutin Infantry Regiment was awarded the St. George Banner with the inscription "For Bazardzhik January 14, 1878" , and Yelets - the gold sword "For Courage" and on April 12 of the same year was promoted to major general ( since seniority in the rank of January 14, 1878) [4] [5] .

In the same 1878 he was appointed commander of the 2nd Brigade of the 35th Infantry Division , while continuing to be listed in the 67th Tarutino Infantry Regiment [3] .

He died on April 13, 1884.
