Airplane
Boeing 727-64 with registration number XA-SEJ (factory - 19255, serial - 331) made its first flight on October 26, 1967 , and on November 8 was handed over to the customer - Mexican airline Mexicana de Aviación (shortly - Mexicana ), where it also received the name Azteca de Oro [1] . It was equipped with three turbofan (dual-circuit) engines Pratt & Whitney JT8D-7B [2] .
Catastrophe
The plane served the international passenger flight MX-801 from Chicago (USA) to Mexico City (Mexico), and there was a crew of 7 people and 111 passengers, mostly American tourists, on board. When landing on the “23 left” lane, the liner suddenly began to quickly lose height, after which, in a landing configuration, he hooked a three-meter railway embankment a mile from the end of the strip, and collapsed into a swamp, falling apart. [2] [3] [4]
As a result of the accident, 21 passengers and 5 crew members died. 56 people survived and were taken to hospital, including 5 in serious condition [3] [4] . Later, one of them died of the wounds in resuscitation, thus increasing the number of victims of the tragedy to 27 [2] .
Investigation
By studying the wreckage, it was determined that the liner was in a normal landing configuration: the chassis were released and fixed, the flaps were released at 30 °, the stabilizer was set at an angle of 10.25 ° for cabrirovanie (lifting the nose), slats released, spoilers removed. The parametric recorder was put on the plane two days before the incident, but with violations, so the recording did not make. The voice recorder was absent altogether, since it had been removed earlier, but no replacement was given to it. Thus, the investigators did not have any evidence, which is why they were forced to admit that they could not determine the cause of the disaster [2] [5] .
