Description
Large beetles (body length without head processes in males reaches 23–29 mm, with head processes up to 39 mm), with a broad, almost not convex, somewhat narrowed back body. The color is black and part of a red-brown color. The body is covered with a very thick, completely hiding the main background of light, grayish-white, greenish-gray or yellowish-olive bloom. Head from above, with the exception of spots and stripes near the inner edges of the eyes, without bloom. Also, without a thin rim on the edges of the pronotum , elytra , spots and stripes on the humeral mounds of the elytra. Sexual dimorphism is strongly pronounced. In males, the head is large, wide, on the sides with 2 long processes in the form of horns, which bend arcuately, diverging from the base to the sides, then directed approximately forward, and their tops are bent upwards. The development of these outgrowths can vary greatly - there are both long-horned and short-legged individuals. In females, the head is narrow, without processes, with rounded sides. Elytra not elongated, tapering markedly to apex. The chest is covered with rather long, whitish hairs. Abdomen naked, in small dotted line. The legs are long and very strong. The fore tibia of males is always very elongated, sometimes somewhat curved inward. On the outside they are with 3 teeth pointing forward. In the female, the front legs are much shorter than in the male, wider [1] .
Area
Representatives of the genus live from South Korea and northern China , to the west to the eastern edge of the Tibetan highlands , to the south the range reaches the island of Taiwan , the extreme south of China and eastern India ( Sikkim , Assam ) [1] .
Biology
Lifestyle is little studied. Beetles are infrequent. Associated with woody vegetation.
