2014 VNBA draft

The 2014 VNBA draft was held on Monday, April 14 , at the headquarters of the ESPN cable channel in Bristol , Connecticut . Players after graduation and foreign players were allowed to participate in the draft. The draft lottery was held on December 10, 2013 , as a result of which the Connecticut Sun team, which she used for 22-year-old Chini Ogwumike , a forward from Stanford University, got the right to choose the first number [1] . The first draft round was broadcast on the ESPN2 sports cable channel (in HD format) at eight o'clock Eastern Standard Time (EDT) , while the second and third rounds were shown on the ESPNU one hour later.

In total, 36 basketball players were selected for this draft, 30 of them from the USA , 2 from Canada ( Natalie Achonva and Michelle Pluff ) and Australia ( Karli Miyovich and Stefani Talbot ) and one from Spain ( Astu Ndur ) and Ukraine ( Inga Orekhova ) . In addition, the center Astu Ndur was born in the capital of Senegal , the city of Dakar , however, as a child, she moved to Spain with her parents, where she accepted the citizenship of this country, and since 2011 she has been playing for the Islas Gran Canaria club in the Spanish Championship .

Draft Lottery

A draft lottery was held on December 10, 2013 , to determine how to select the first four teams of the upcoming draft, which was televised on the SportsCenter cable channel at 6:30 p.m. EDT . Connecticut Sun won the right to choose first, while Tulsa Shock and San Antonio Stars were awarded second and third choices respectively. The remaining elections of the first round, as well as all elections of the second and third rounds, were carried out by the teams in the reverse order of their final position in the regular season last season [2] .

  • On March 1, 2013, a trilateral deal took place between the teams of New York Liberty , Minnesota Links and Tulsa Shock , which resulted in:
    • The Minnesota Links sold Candice Wiggins to Tulsa Shock .
    • New York Liberty sold Nicole Powell to Tulsa Shock .
    • New York Liberty sold Janelle McCarville to Minnesota Links .
    • Tulsa Shock sold the rights to Deanna Nolan to New York Liberty .
    • Minnesota Links received the right to choose under the 15th draft number from the Tulsa Shock [4] .
  • On March 12, 2014, Indiana Feaver got the right to choose under the 9th draft number from the Phoenix Mercury as a result of a transaction to exchange Erin Phillips for Lynette Kaiser .
  • On March 31, 2014, the Connecticut Sun team received the right to choose under the 11th draft number from the Los Angeles Sparks as a result of a deal to sell Sandrine Piles .
  • On April 14, 2014, a two-way deal took place between the New York Liberty and Connecticut Sun clubs, which resulted in:
    • Connecticut Sun sold Tina Charles to New York Liberty .
    • New York Liberty sold Alyssa Thomas and Kelsey Bone , the 5th number of last year’s draft , selected under the 4th draft number, as well as the right to choose in the first round of the 2015 Connecticut Sun draft .
  • On April 14, 2014, a two-way deal took place between the Washington Mystics and Seattle Storm teams, which resulted in:
    • The Washington Mystics sold Crystal Langhorn to the Seattle Storm .
    • The Seattle Storm sold Bia Hartley's 7th pick and Tianna Hawkins , 6th last year’s pick , to Washington Mystics [5] [6] .
