Biography
Petr Kubicek was born on April 30, 1957 in the city of Nymburk of the Central Bohemian Region . He began to actively engage in rowing in early childhood, was trained in the local sports section.
He achieved his first serious success at an adult international level in 1980 when he joined the main team of the Czechoslovak national team and, thanks to a series of successful performances, was granted the right to defend the honor of the country at the Summer Olympics in Moscow . Together with his partner Jiri Vrdlovets, he participated in the races of twos at distances of 500 and 1000 meters, in both cases he managed to get through to the final stage, but in the decisive heats he finished fifth twice.
After the Moscow Olympics, he remained in the main line-up of the Czechoslovakian rowing team and continued to take part in major international regattas. So, in 1981, he visited the World Championships in English, Nottingham, from where he brought a bronze medal prize, won with the same Vrdlovets in twos at ten thousand meters - better than the crews from Hungary and Romania.
Subsequently, Kubichek moved from sprint canoeing to marathon, and represented the German national team in these disciplines. In particular, in 2000, as part of the German national team, he performed at the Marathon World Rowing Championships in Canadian Dartmouth, where he became a bronze medalist in the double canoe race, losing only to crews from Hungary and Canada.
