Schwechat ( German: Schwechat ) is a city in Austria , in the federal state of Lower Austria . The city is best known for its Vienna International Airport , as well as the local beer brand of the same name.

Geography
Located in the southeastern suburbs of the Austrian capital Vienna .
It is divided into four divisions, called cadastral communities ( German Katastralgemeinde ): Kledering ( German Kledering ), Mannsworth ( German Mannswörth ), Randersdorf ( German Rannersdorf ) and Schwechat ( German Schwechat ).
The city of Schwechat is named after the river , which flows through the city center. It covers an area of 44.7 km². Located at an altitude of 162 m above sea level .
Demographics
According to the census in 2001, the population of the city was 15,456 people, and the population density was 321 people per km².
Economics
The city is home to an OMV refinery .
History
During the Roman Empire, the territory of modern Schwechat housed the settlement Ala Nova ( German: Ala Nova ).
Schwechat was first mentioned in a document of 1334.
In 1724, a textile factory was founded. Schwechat greatly benefited from the 19th century Austrian industrialization wave. Many companies founded at that time still exist (for example, brewing).
Schwechat received city status in 1924, but was annexed to the Vienna political body [ unknown term ] in 1938. He regained his status as a separate city in 1954.
