Maclaurin Crater ( Latin Maclaurin ) is a large ancient impact crater in the eastern equatorial region of the visible side of the Moon . The name was given in honor of the Scottish mathematician Colin Maclaurin (1698-1746) and approved by the International Astronomical Union in 1935. The formation of the crater belongs to the nectar period [1] .

Crater Description
The immediate neighbors of the crater are the Hargreaves Crater in the west; Pomortsev crater in the north-north-west; Respighi Crater in the northeast; Rankin Crater in the east-southeast; Born Crater in the south-south-west and Morley Crater in the west-south-west. To the west of the Maclaurin Crater is the Sea of Plenty ; in the northwest Sea of Foam ; in the north Sea of Waves [2] .
Selenographic coordinates of the center of the crater , diameter 54.3 km [3] , depth 3380 m [4] .
Crater Maclaurin has a polygonal shape and is significantly destroyed over a long time of its existence. The shaft is flattened, in the southeastern part of the shaft there is a wide passage. The shaft height above the surrounding area reaches 1120 m [1] , the volume of the crater is approximately 2000 km³ [1] . The bottom of the bowl is flat, possibly reformed by lava , and has a low albedo . In the center of the bowl is a low ridge.
