Biography

Born in 1899 in Troitsk ( Russian Empire ), where his father was exiled on charges of complicity in the murder of Tsar Alexander II . In 1911 he moved with his family to Vitebsk , in 1914 - to Warsaw .

After the formation of independent Poland, he joined the Polish Army, participated in the Soviet-Polish war , and was awarded the Cross of the Brave . In the interwar period he was an instructor in physical training, taught boxing, fencing and hand-to-hand combat. In 1928 he won the bronze medal of the Olympic Games in Amsterdam in the saber fencing team championship. In 1930, he won the bronze medal of the International Fencing Championships in Liege in the same discipline (in 1937, the International Fencing Federation retroactively recognized all previously held International Fencing Championships as world championships).

After the outbreak of World War II, he fought as part of the Prussia army ; on September 27, 1939, he was captured. He was held in a prisoner of war camp near Waldenberg , where he secretly trained other prisoners of war in hand-to-hand combat. At the end of the war, the camps were evacuated away from the advancing Soviet troops, so he was released from captivity on May 2, 1945 by the Americans.

In 1945-1946 he was the commandant of the OXFORD CAMP camp located in the British zone of German occupation, which contained displaced persons from Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. Since 1946, he worked as part of the Polish military mission at the Polish consulate in Berlin. He was the representative of Poland in the Joint Executive Committee for Repatriation to the Control Council . In 1948 he returned to his homeland, where he continued his coaching and teaching work.
